Boilers
Make sure that your boiler will make it through the winter by having your boiler inspected by a certified technician. An inspection can also keep your boiler running as efficiently as possible. An efficient and well-maintained boiler is also more cost effective. If you see an unusual spike in your heating bill that could be a sign that your boiler isn’t running properly.
It is also important to note that there are some safety risks if your boiler isn’t working like it should. Improper maintenance can lead to poor combustion and even the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Poor ventilation and incorrect installation can also result in safety hazards.

For those who don’t know what a boiler is or how it works, let us explain.
A boiler can run off of oil, propane, solid-fuels or natural gas. The most common in Utah is natural gas or propane. One type of boiler system creates hot water or steam that circulates through pipes in your home until it reaches a heat-radiating device. Another type of system creates hot water that circulates through piping in floors or ceilings that creates a radiating heat surface. If your home isn’t heated by a furnace or mini-split system it is probably heated by a boiler using a process called hydronics.
The overall efficiency of boilers, which are now compact, has improved greatly over the years. In fact, a new boiler may be 30 – 40 percent more efficient than a boiler that was installed only ten years ago. Some of the new technology allows for 99% efficiency.
If you have an old coal burner that was swapped over to gas or oil then it is time to look for a replacement. A new efficient boiler is just what you need.
Thanks to the Federal Trade Commission, you can now look at the display on some boilers and determine how efficient the boiler is. The Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency or AFUE is the measurement that shows efficiently.
