A water heater is one of those essential appliances that you don’t really think about until it stops working. At 1st American Plumbing, Heating, and Air, we offer same-day* water heater replacement or repair so that life can get back to normal.
We Know the Code and Warranty Requirements
Utah has very specific plumbing code requirements. We make sure that your water heater is installed correctly. That means that we offer to install the following items to code. Temperature and pressure relief valves with a discharge tube within proper distance from the floor. We also install seismic straps on the top and bottom third of the water heater for earthquake protection. We also install thermal expansion tanks, set to house pressure. The water heaters we install are lowNOx compliant.
Choosing a Water Heater
You have a lot of choices when it comes to water heaters. We will help you select one that works for your budget and your home. Did your old water heater give you all of the hot water you needed or was there a race to not be the last one to shower? Letting us know your family size, along with the ages of family members, can help us help you. We recommend the Bradford White brand for its high quality and competitive price. Bradford White stands behind their product with a 6-year tank and parts warranty. We also offer a 2-year labor warranty with all Bradford White water heaters. Bradford White offers high recovery, natural gas, power vent, LP, electric, indirect or tankless. If you prefer another brand, we can install it as long as it is Low NOx compliant. We can also install indirect water heaters off of a boiler system.
How does a tankless water heater work?
Depending on incoming water temperature and the flow rate of the water it will heat, the water as it goes through a heat exchanger, heats the water on demand. With a traditional tank, the water is heated 24-7. With a tankless, the flow sensor controls when the unit turns on and heats only when needed. As long as there is water flow it will heat. Also because of the high-efficiency, it requires stainless steel or PVC venting.
Recirculating Pump/System
We also have options that have a recirculating pump or system. Recirculation is helpful in reducing the time required between turning on your fixture and having hot water flowing out of it. Especially if the fixture is located a significant distance from your mechanical room, where the water heater is located.
There are videos that show pros and cons of tankless vs tank style water heaters. One of the biggest benefits to tankless is the endless hot water. Tankless typically has a longer lifespan. Either one you choose you will want to keep in mind the recommended yearly maintenance. Both types tankless and tank suggest that you have the unit flushed yearly.
I have a jetted tub. What kind of system should I use?
If you want endless hot water (you have a jetted tub or a lot of people in the house) you want a tankless water heater or a second option is two tanks in a series that are sized correctly for your usage.
Water Heater Maintenance
Flush your water heater on an annual basis. Water softeners reduce the amount of sentiment that will build up in your water heater or on your heat exchanger.
We will help you select a water heater that is best for your circumstances. With models that can help you decrease your monthly heating costs. We want to make sure that you have all the hot water you need to make it through the morning rush or evening routine.
