Drip. Drip. Drip. The sound gets annoying after a while and a dripping or leaky faucet will add to your water bill and could cause damage to water fixtures, pipes, or worse.
If the leak is caught early enough then we can repair or replace the faucet or toilet. If the leak has caused damage, we can help with that, too. Look around for leaks. If you suspect a leak you can’t find, our technicians have the ability to clock the meter and determine if the leak is in the home or between the water meter and the house.
What are the signs of a water leak?
Dripping is the obvious sign but a dripping faucet isn’t always dripping and you might miss it. Also, the leak could be in a spot where you can’t easily see it.
So, here are some other things to look for:
- If your toilet water is turning off and on without being flushed
- Water puddles. A small amount of water in your tub may mean that your bathtub faucet is leaking. You may find puddles in your sink, shower, or at the base of your faucet.
- Take a close look at your water faucets.
- If you see water flowing into the toilet bowl
- There is water in the tank but no one has flushed it
Not all leaks are found at or near the water faucet. You may find puddles or damp flooring at the base of your toilet or washing machine.
Other things to look for:
- Increased water bill. If your water bills increases and stays higher than normal, look around for leaks.
- That smell. You may think that it’s rotten food or something the pet left behind. It could be the beginnings of water damage or mold that has been growing for some time. Either way, it’s not something you want to inhale. Give us a call and we’ll take care of it.
- A squeaky faucet can also be a sign of a leaky faucet. Do you hear something (other than the sound of water) when you turn your faucet off or on?
- If your faucet has become increasingly difficult to turn off or on, this may be another sign of a leaky faucet.
Remember, water can also find its way into a rug or carpeting, down walls, and beneath your flooring. If you’re curious about how much water you’re wasting put a gallon bucket beneath the faucet and see how quickly it fills up. Putting leaks off ads to the cost of your water bill. It can be cheaper, and more economically friendly, to fix the leak.
Is it time to replace my toilet?
A good toilet can last for several years. If your toilet has a crack, is leaking water, or is in need of several repairs then it’s a great time to replace it. You may also consider replacing if you have an older toilet – one that has higher than a 1.6 gallon flush. An average person uses a toilet 6 – 8 times daily. If you have a 5-gallon flushing toilet vs 1.5-gallon flushing toilet, how much extra water are you flushing down the drain? Flushing toilets and washing laundry are the two top users of water in a home.
My kitchen and/or bathroom faucets look out of date. Can you replace them?
Yes! Keep your kitchen and bath up-to-date. We have a selection of faucets that you can choose from or you can purchase on your own and we will provide the professional insulation.
Downspouts
Downspout drains help to channel water from roof gutters away from your home. Many downspouts are connected to the city’s storm sewer system via underground pipes which can become clogged with leaves and debris and cause a backup. First-American provides professional plumbing services that clean downspouts and their connecting pipes to prevent flooding and restore proper drainage around the home and commercial buildings.
